CURRICULUM

Grade OneKingsley Primary School follows the Ontario Provincial Ministry directives. At Kingsley we meet, and often exceed the provincial standards in all subjects. Students receive a report card 3 times per year followed by a parent teacher interview. All children are given direct personal assistance in the classroom and the average class size is twelve (12) students per teacher. Each learner has the opportunity to receive positive and interactive teaching. Reasonable goals for the mastery of strong basic skills are tailored to the needs of each student and revised on a regular basis. Classes regularly take field trips and host classroom visitors. Assessments

At Kingsley a child’s progress will be evaluated:

  • for purposes of extending learning
  • using a variety of methods appropriate to the age and developmental stages of the child
  • in a manner that recognizes and differentiates for each child’s individual needs on a continuous basis

Grade 5According to this policy, assessments will be communicated to the parents as soon as, and as often as, the teacher perceives the need to share this information. Formal written progress reports based on the Ontario Ministry of Education’s recommended report card are distributed three times a year.

Teachers will arrange interview times following each report card distribution. Interviews concerning a child’s progress can always be arranged at other times and may be requested by the child’s teacher or parents. This promotes and ensures open communication and cooperation between home and family.
